Celebrating a century
and a half of ideas, excellence, and impact.

A WELCOME FROM OUR PRESIDENT

MassArt’s legacy is one of bold thinking, educational excellence, and profound impact. Our students, faculty, alumni and staff are creative powerhouses who for 150 years have made groundbreaking contributions to our economy and our communities.

As the nation’s only independent public college of art and design, we are deeply committed to bringing our talent and ideals to the work of creating a better world. Each day, our community does just that by exploring the amazing power and possibility of art and design. That spirit has guided us since 1873, and I am excited to see where it will take us—all of us—in the years and decades to come.

OUR HISTORY

MassArt was founded on the belief that art has the power to enhance the well-being of individuals, communities, and economies. That bold, progressive thinking has produced 150 years of trailblazing ideas and milestones. We’ve accomplished so much, and yet there is so much more to come.

A LEGACY OF PIONEERING IDEAS AND IDEALS

COMMITTED TO IMPACT

Our community touches the world in countless ways. We’ve educated generations of artists and designers. Made groundbreaking contributions to culture, education, and industry. Fostered economic vitality and vibrant communities. Year after year, our students, faculty, and 20,000+ alumni use art and design to advance the common good, here in Massachusetts and around the globe.
